Declare a Major or Minor
If you are an undeclared student who wishes to specify a major:
- You must use the Change of Major Petition
- A signature is required from the new major department
- Submit petition to the college Dean's office in which major is listed
If you want to change your major:
- You must use the Change of Major Petition
- Your new department must sign the form before your old department
- Some departments require the completion of prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA before you can change into the major
- Submit petition to the college Dean's office in which new major is listed
- You must complete 1 quarter at UCD before changing your major
If you want to declare a double major:
- You must use the Change of Major Petition and the Multiple Major Approval Form
- You must complete 2 upper division courses in each major before declaring the double major
- You must be able to complete BOTH majors plus all University/College requirements within the 225 unit limit
If you want to declare a minor:
- You must use the Declare a Minor Petition
- You do not need to declare your minor until the quarter before you graduate
- It must be signed by both the major and minor departments
- It is best to wait until minor courses have been finalized before submitting the petition. If any course changes are made after turning in the petition, you must submit a revised copy (also signed by both the major and minor advisor).
